![]() ![]() Wakan Tanka smiles upon us, because now we are as one: earth, sky, all living things, the two legged, the fourlegged, the winged ones, the trees, the grasses. With your feet resting upon the earth and the pipe stem reaching into the sky, your body forms a living bridge between the Sacred Beneath and the Sacred Above. “With this holy pipe,” she said, “you will walk like a living prayer. On the top the inscription is “Wolakota” which is Lakota for “peace.” It was to the Lakota nation that White Buffalo Woman appeared long ago, gifting them the sacred pipe. The inscription is the Aboriginal, Walpiri for peace, “Iawa-nyinami” (notice that it also contains the Esperanto word for love, “ami”!) The Spiral represents all original religions, (paganism, shamanism, etc.,) and all indigenous peoples. The inscription is the Russian for Peace, “Mir” and the symbol “Мúр” The Flower of Life symbol was chosen to represent all secular and individual spiritual paths. It’s inscription is the Chinese word” Hépíng” and the Chinese and Japanese peace symbol 和平 Taoism, like Confucianism, is both a religion and a philosophy, so I chose this symbol to represent all peoples governed by political philosophies, for example communism or capitalism. The Tao, or yin/yang symbol means “the way” and represents the wholeness, balance and harmony that is only achieved when opposing forces are in equal balance. Despite his country being invaded and over a million Tibetans killed, imprisoned, tortured and starved since 1949 (17% of the population – HH refers to his people as an endangered species) and their culture and religious expression still subverted and banned in what can only be described as cultural and religious genocide, he remains a powerful and inspirational advocate of peaceful negotiation. I chose the Tibetan language for the Buddhist symbol as the leader of the Tibetan people, the Nobel peace prize winner HH the Dalai Lama is internationally recognised as the embodiment of peace. The inscription on the Buddhism disc is “Gzhi-bde”, and the Tibetan peace symbol ཞི་བདེ The inscription on the Christian cross is “Peace” and the Spanish & Portuguese word for peace, “Paz” ![]() The inscription on the Om is “Shanti” and the Hindu peace symbol The inscription on the Star of David is “Shalom” and the Hebrew peace symbol םולש The inscription on the Moon and Star is “Salam” and the Islamic peace symbol ملاس The inscription on the dove of peace is “Paco” for peace and “Ami” for love.
